Dr. Mithunchandra Chaudhari

Assistant Professor

Dr. Mithunchandra is a National Award-winning filmmaker whose work has garnered recognition at prestigious national and international film festivals. As the Head of the MA Film, Television & Digital Production Programme at Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (SIMC), he brings his expertise in Creative Writing, Screenwriting, Direction, and Documentary Filmmaking to the classroom, inspiring the next generation of storytellers.

Dr. Mithunchandra served on the IFFI jury for non-feature films in the Indian Panorama section in 2017 and 2024. His short fiction film Paywat won the prestigious Best Educational Film Award (Silver Lotus) at the 63rd National Film Awards (2015) and is currently streaming on ZEE5. His body of work, spanning both fiction and documentary, has been showcased and awarded at renowned film festivals worldwide, including IFFI, Mumbai, Kolkata, Kerala, Dharamshala International Film Festival, Visions du Réel (Switzerland), BRICS Film Festival, CineFest Miskolc (Hungary), and Filmfest Dresden, among others.

He has also contributed to the direction of acclaimed Marathi films Fandry and Sairat. Additionally, his debut poetry collection, Aatli Kawada, was published in 2025. A recipient of the USIEF Research Scholarship, he collaborated with fellow SIMC professors on research focused on Interactive Documentary at Salisbury University, Maryland. He completed his practice-based PhD in 2025 and has taught at various institutions across Maharashtra and Goa. His feature-length documentary is currently in post-production, while his debut feature-length fiction film is in the advanced stages of development.
