Update on SIMC (PG) Pune Admissions: an overview for the applicants (and their parents):
At the outset we would like to thank all the applicants who applied to and made it through various stages of admissions to our MBA and MMC programmes, 2011-13 batch.
Admission at SIMC Pune was more intense and competitive this year than ever before. This is due to a multitude of reasons:
1. The admission process itself underwent a sea change this year. The students called in for GE / PI went through
a. Group Exercise (MBA) or Written test (MMC) [GE]
b. Personal Interaction with a panel comprising of an internal faculty member and an external industry professional [PI]
c. A non-graded, non-gating psychometric test, (based on validated scales conducted and interpreted by an (experience and reputed) expert team) and used as a probing input during PI, introduced for the first time at SIMC
d. The total score of 100 for final evaluation comprises of 50 points derived from the SNAP score, 25 points derived from GE / Written test and the balance 25 from PI.
2. The number of seats were reduced for admission to AY 2011-13 (as stated in the prospectus) to 80 for MBA (all specialisations put together) and 40 for MMC (for both the specialisation areas)
3. Simultaneously we invited a larger number of candidates to evaluate them for specific suitability to our programmes. We wanted a greater diversity and also offer a chance to those who could demonstrate their creative potential and /or genuine interest in the Media and Communication industries. In our experience, only a detailed PI has the ability to evaluate these desired characteristics that SNAP results may not predict.
4. We also invited students from the MBA and MMC GE/PI wait lists (to offer a chance to deserving candidates with lower SNAP scores) during specially held GE / Pi sessions on Feb 17th and 18th at Pune. Quite a few from these groups also made it to the final Merit lists, validating our hypotheses.
5. Our GE / PI process started on 7th February and concluded by 3 pm on 18th February 2011, with the last group of MMC applicants. The results were completed by the evening of 18th February and sent over to Symbiosis International University for verification and approval thereafter. The duly approved results were uploaded on our website on Feb 21, 2011, as per deadline in the SIMC prospectus.
6. The success rates this year was 10.24% for MBA candidates, making it to the Merit List and 13.60% to the MMC Merit list. We expect that the selected students will learn more from a reduced class size, have a better ability to apply these learnings during their internships and industry projects. All of these factors enumerated above will lead to a stronger image for SIMC as an Academic institution as also for its faculty and students.
7. We understand that there are some clarifications required additionally, that will help interpret individual results correctly. For more details on your admission results and related facts, please click on the appropriate category below, for an overall picture per status type:
We appreciate all those who were interested in joining SIMC but due to intense competition we were unable to proceed further, during this year’s admission process. Not making it to SIMC this year does not reflect on one’s capability or potential and we are certain that you will have many opportunities for associating with SIMC Pune in the future.
