| Digit All Movement |
The Digit-ALL Movement is an attempt on the part of the students of SIMC to showcase the latest technological trend in film-making- digitisation. The fest was organised for the first time in 2008 and was well received by the audience. The Festival is a mixture of screenings and workshops/interactive session conducted by experts in this field. An exclusively digital film festival, only films made digitally (digital video and animation) were screened and highlighted on this forum.
This DAM festival is a platform for film-makers and artists who want to experiment with alternative forms of film-making. The ease at editing, the budget benefits and increasing sophistication in the quality of the digital film making was highlighted in this festival. The seminars that were organised were targeted to also help amateur and student filmmakers to understand the medium and how to go about making digital films.
The speakers this year thus had to include luminaries from the world of cinema. This included Tanuja Chandra, Mohan Krishnan, Manmohan Shetty, Pushpender Mishra and Bhavna Talwar. While eminent filmmaker Tanuja Chandra inspired the audience with her words, “The only way to avoid failure is to never stop working,” Bhavna Talwar gave a personal account of the pros and cons of digital film making, quoting from her experience while directing Dharm, India's first film made on HD format.
Mohan Krishnan CEO SFX Studio, took the audience through the development in the special effects in cinema though the years and Manmohan Shetty, the owner of Adlabs film processing and Entertainment One production company, was our Professor Emeritus. Young film makers like Bidyut Kotoky and Abhijeet Tambe came forth to showcase their films and speak about them at this festival. The institute aspires to keep this tradition alive by encouraging students to consistently organise the Digit All Movement Festival every year. |
