Course Curriculum


SIMC (PG) Pune Campus offers two full-time postgraduate degree programmes which are spread over two years

  1. Master of Business Administration (Communication Management):
    focuses on preparing managers for the current and emerging opportunities in the Media and Communications Vertical. The program offers the following specialisations (subject to at least 20 students opting for each of these):

    • Advertising & Marketing Communications (Client Servicing /Account Planning, Agency and Creative Operations)
    • Public Relations, Event Management and Corporate Communications
    • Media Management (Media industry management, media audience planning and research, advertising sales and distribution) being launched for the very first time at SIMC from Academic Year 2011-13

     
  2. Master of Mass Communication:
    focuses on Content generation and creative skills for the Print, Broadcast, Films and Digital Media Industries. The academia offers the following specialisations, (subject to at least 20 students opting for each of these):

    • Journalism (Print, Broadcast and Cyber Media)
    • Audio Visual Production (Radio & Television Production, Ad films, Documentary Filmmaking and Film Studies)


The Academic Curriculum for the two-year full-time programme is spread over four semesters of 16 weeks each. The approximate break up of credits per semester is as follows:
Semester I     31 credits
Semester II    28 credits
Semester III   28 credits
Semester IV  16 credits

A Capstone Dissertation Project, during the second year worth 8 credits, gives students the opportunity to integrate the key learning across courses, in a subject of their interest, over the two years at SIMC.

Summer training and Internships:

As part of the academic curriculum, every student is required to undertake:

  1. Multiple Industry projects
  2. A Social Responsibility Project
  3. Industry Internships (Summer Compulsory and Winter optional)


These projects are allotted to the students across different semesters, through industry interactions. Support from the SIMC Alumni helps in securing such opportunities for our current students. Students get an exposure to the industry and an opportunity to apply their acquired skill sets.

General Management modules include:
Written Analysis and Communication, Business Mathematics, Business Statistics, Business Economics, Marketing management, Introduction to Marketing Communications (Advertising, Events and PR, and Media Management) (Communication Theories, Films, Broadcast & Print Journalism), , Business Communication, Case Studies in General Management, Consumer Behaviour, Global Business Environment, Marketing Research, Principles & Practices of Management, Introduction to Consumer behavior, Human Resource Management & Organizational behavior, Business Strategy, Accounting and Financial Management, Qualitative Research methods, Services Marketing, Rural Marketing, Sales Distribution and Retailing.

General Communication modules include:
Communication Theories, Culture and Communication, Audio- Visual Communication, Radio Theory & Practice, Basics of Economics, History of Print & Broadcast Journalism, Current Affairs, Media Analysis, History of TV, Business Communication, Introduction to Photography, Design Technology, Media Research Methods.

Advertising And Marketing Communications Specialisation modules include:
Integrated Marketing Communication, Strategic Brand Management, Advanced Consumer Behaviour, Advanced Marketing Research, Advertising copy & creative, , Client Servicing, Account Planning, Creative Planning, Advertising Management and Advertising Sales, Entertainment Media Marketing, Advertising strategy & production, Sports Management, Consumer Insights, Advertising research.

PR , Event Managementand Corporate Communications Specialisation modules include:
Public Relations & Corporate Communication, Event Management, PR Client Servicing, PR Account Planning, Specialised Public Relations, Exhibitions, Direct Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Corporate Communications, Event production and marketing, other specialized courses.

Media Management modules include:
History of global media industries, Media Planning-buying and selling, Business of Media, Audience Measurement, Economic & Business analysis of media, Managing consumption and production of media, Brand communication, Strategy and innovation in media, Theories of Computer Mediated Communication, Understanding Media Audiences, New Media: Production and Consumption, History of Indian Media, Social Media Strategy, Innovation in Media Industries, Media Innovations in Marketing Communications, Google Online Marketing Challenge.

Journalism modules include:
News Reporting, Specialised Reporting, Media Analysis, Editing, Feature Writing, Television News Production, Publishing Technology, Newspaper Production & Printing, Regional Journalism, Cyber Media and lab journal, Current Affairs and Analysis, Global Media Systems, International Relations – World Order, Indian Constitution, Contemporary India & the World; Media Laws & Ethics, Media Management & Organizations.

Audio-Visual Production modules include:
Camera and Lighting, Audio-Visual post-production, Screenplay writing, Audiography, Music, Documentary film making, Television Channel Programming & Management; Audio Visual Production Management, Film Aesthetics, Scene Directing, Entertainment Media Marketing, Film Appreciation, Animation, Writing for
Nonfiction, Communication Technologies, Radio Production, Visual Communication.
